Judge Alan Troy

Judge Alan Troy of the District Court of Western Australia was born in England and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Wales in 1988. In 1990 he was called to the Bar of England and Wales. Judge Troy practised at the Bar in South Wales, predominantly defending criminal cases, until March 2002 when he relocated to Western Australia, taking up a position at the Commonwealth DPP. In 2005 he moved to the State DPP, where he was a senior state prosecutor until February 2010. He then commenced practice as a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers. Judge Troy has a strong interest in the history of advocacy, particularly in criminal law. His Honour’s article Improving written submissions appears in all By Lawyers litigation guides.
